An introduction to Kieran J Edwards

Where it began

My creative career started in 2013 after a stint working part-time for Galaxy, a white-labelled business operating as Tesco Opticians. After taking some glasses home and shooting a video with my parents and younger brothers (just for fun), I was offered my first full-time role as a creative. I spent the next year producing video assets for the Tesco website and in-store screens.

I then landed my first agency role at JWT - a global advertising firm and part of the WPP group. My role shifted slightly as I became the agency’s lead on social content and strategy. I quickly realised that, amongst all of the ‘above the line’ agencies, there was still a gap in knowledge and resource when it comes to social advertising. As a result, I left JWT and started my own creative consultancy business at the age of 24.

This led to a merger with design agency, Shoot The Moon. I joined the board and became responsible for the content side of the business. After 4 years of graft, and leading the agency from 22 to 55 staff, I knew that production is where my skills and passions lie. Enter Dead Pixel Films.

Building a production company

In 2019, I joined forces with a freelance director of photography to build Dead Pixel Films, a production company that focuses on sports, lifestyle and food content. This allowed me to produce and direct commercial and branded content for clients including Subaru, Myprotein, Oxo, Ambrosia, Hyundai and BBC Food to name a few.

Over the next five years, I grew the business to a team of 7, opened a 4,000 sqft production studio and won ‘Production Company of the Year’ at the Prolific North awards.

Going freelance

In December 2024, and still only 33 years old, I decided that I’d had my fix of running businesses and wanted to use all of my experience and commercial acumen learned to date to focus on directing. I sold my half of the production company and began my next challenge as a freelance film director, focusing on commercials and branded content.
